For better or for worse, memes have become an integral part of the way that we as a culture share ideas. It doesn’t matter if you’re a casual social media user or an extreme marketing guru, you have probably used a meme at some point to convey your thoughts on social media. At the very least, you’ve shared a meme from Black twitter here and there. However, something you might not know is that memes are super easy and fun to use!

Below are three meme making apps that the savvy social media user cannot afford to live without.

1. Meme Generator

User: The casual social media user

Available for Android and iPhone

Meme Generator is a great app to use when you want to have a laugh with a good friend via a commonly used viral image. The concept behind Meme Generator is that you take an already popular viral image such as “Skai Jackson Meme,” “Confused Girl,” or “Why You Always Lyin” and you add your own words. Meme Generator wasn’t meant for the creative who wishes to make their own memes. It’s more suitable for those looking for a casual laugh among friends. With that being said, once you launch your meme, be prepared, because despite the fact that these popular images have been used time and time again, they are still liable to go viral and garner thousands of views.

2. Mematic

User: The crafty small business owner

Available for Android and iPhone

Are you a clever young entrepreneur looking to draw attention to your business’ social media account? If so, then Mematic is the app that was made for you to use. Mematic takes meme making beyond that of Meme Generator by allowing users to create their own unique memes. Using your own pictures, you can add captions along with your Facebook and Twitter details to cool pics that you’re able to create. You can also use Mematic for fun. The app allows you to take pics from last night and add funny captions to share with friends. Just like Meme Generator, Mematic also allows users to add captions to popular memes. However, their selection is a bit better than the former’s. Images are more likely to draw attention to social media user accounts, and if you own a small business, a life without memes is one with less followers. The coolest thing about Mematic is its ease of use. Simply hit the download button, and watch the followers pour in.

3. Giphy

User: The experienced meme maker

Available for Android and iPhone

Full disclosure, it took me a minute to catch on to how Giphy works. This app isn’t your grandma’s meme generator, which means that if you aren’t familiar with file types, essentially what a GIF is, you may have to work a little harder to make one. GIFs are made from a series of photos or a section of a video and converted into a moving image. Users add photos or videos to the Giphy app. The images are then converted into GIFs to share via social media.  What was once limited to Photoshop has now been made available for any internet user with an android or iPhone. Although it takes a little bit longer to get the hang of GIFs, I guarantee that once you start you won’t stop.
