Is there anything more delightful than a creamy avocado to top off a crunchy tortilla chip, taco, or even salad? Growing up in California, I consumed avocados more than apples. I still delight in waiting for their ripe green skin to darken then give way to a tender center. In addition to just tasting damn good, avocados are also full of health benefits, including dietary fiber, healthy fats, and Vitamin A, B, C, E, & K. Traditional guacamole is a great party starter, but there are a number of ways to take the classic dip up a notch. Here are 3:

Bacon Tomato Guacamole

  • 4 ripe avocados, mashed
  • 3 strips of bacon, cooked and chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 2 tsp. of hot sauce
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix and season to taste.  Serve with tortilla chips or add to your favorite salad to make it a true BLT!

Mango Guacamole

  • 4 Ripe Avocados, mashed
  • ¼ red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 ripe mango, chopped into small pieces
  • 1 tsp. of salt
  • 1 tsp. of cumin
  • ¼ bunch of cilantro, chopped
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • Optional: one jalapeño, chopped

Combine all ingredients and season to taste. Top with jalapeño for extra kick.

Greek Style Guacamole

  • 4 ripe avocados, chopped coarsely
  • ¼ red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 oz. pitted kalamata olives
  • 3 oz. crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 tbs fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp of freshly chopped oregano
  • 2 oz. chopped cherry tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. of sea salt

Combine lemon juice with chopped avocados. Add in other ingredients and stir gently.
