People are still recovering from the events of Florida where 19-year-old, Nikolas Cruz shot and killed 17 students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

The Huffington Post reports that on average, the United States has one shooting incident on a campus about every 63 hours thus far in 2018.

That’s more than double the number recorded in any of the previous three years in that same time period.

The media outlet reports that according to data, those numbers were compiled by the gun control advocacy organization, Everytown for Gun Safety. The group defines a school shooting as “any time a firearm is discharged on or around a campus,” the paper reports.

White House secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders stated that President Trump believes that all Americans deserve to be safe.

“The president believes that all Americans deserve to be safe in their schools and in their communities,” Sanders said after a deadly school shooting in Kentucky last month. “We’ve tried to crack down on crime throughout the country.”
