Former President Barack Obama isn’t hesitant about making grand gestures. As someone who has been under scrutiny since setting foot into the White House, we can understand that being shy has no place in politics.

But this time, Obama wasn’t speaking up for the people. He was making it known that Michelle Obama should get her tail home (in the most loving and affectionate way possible) because they had some celebrating to do!

Tuesday marked 25 years since the famous First Couple said, “I do,” and Mr. Obama thought it would be a good idea to send his wife a sweet video, surprising her during her talk with Shonda Rhimes at a women’s conference in Philly, PEOPLE reports.

Appearing on screen, the former commander in chief first apologized for “crashing” the event before sending a touching tribute that brought tears to Michelle’s eyes.

“I had to crash this party because today we have been married for 25 years,” Obama said. “The idea that you would put up with me for a quarter of a century is a remarkable testament to what a saintly, wonderful, patient person you are.”

Awwww.

“It’s no wonder that as people got to know you the way that I got to know you, they fell in love,” he added. “It is truly the best decision that I ever made to be persistent enough in asking you out for a date.”

Mrs. Obama’s response?

“I better get home.”

Cue the tears. So sweet!
