When you love someone, the last thing that you want to do is to get into it with them. But we are flawed human beings that will not always see eye-to-eye.

Our mates should be our peace and because of that, arguments are usually much more taxing on the spirit than a disagreement with anyone else. Here are three things to keep in mind when reconciling with your mate.

1) Take Time to Cool Off.

While you may not be able to take back what you said during a heated discussion or argument, you can control what you say moving forward. In order to not allow your emotions to speak for you, understand that time to cool off is needed. You should approach your mate with a calm disposition and clear mind.

2) Try to Understand Your Mate’s Point of View.

A conversation without understanding is just words spoken. They don’t have any meaning and will make both you and your mate feel like time is wasted. During your time of reflection, make sure you really think about what your mate said and it’s validity. In order to re-establish a connection with your mate, you must first seek to understand where they are coming from …genuinely.

3) Don’t just talk about it, empathize.

Nothing is worse than seeking to reconcile via confrontation. Without empathy and a genuine desire to make things right, you will only fuel the fire that is already there. No one is saying kiss ass, but you must always come from a place of genuine love despite the circumstance.
