Two Mississippi police officers were fired last week from the Laurel Police Department (LPD) for allegedly beating a Black man last week, ABC News reports.

James Barnett, 36, said that officers followed him after he reached a police checkpoint in Jasper Country and turned his car around. He said cops pursued his car and when they pulled him over they moved toward him with their gun drawn.

He told ABC News that they instructed him to get down on the ground and they began to kick him once he did.

“I’ve never been so afraid in my life,” Barnett wrote in the Facebook post in which he included pictures of his injuries. “I will not let this go, I don’t [want] this to happen to anyone else. There is no justice in what they did to me!! But I will get JUSTICE!!”

Barnett said that he never fought back and that the abuse continued when they took him to South Central Regional Medical.

He was charged with resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license and three other misdemeanors.

The unnamed officers were fired the next day after an Internal Affairs investigation showed that there was a problem with the arrest, the LPD told ABC News

Additional charges may be filed against the officers, per the report.
