Today is day 25 of the national month-long writing campaign for men on the issue of domestic violence and in support of Marissa Alexander, the Florida mother of three who was sentenced to 20 years for firing a warning shot to scare off her abusive husband. Launched by the Chicago Taskforce on Violence Against Domestic Violence , Emotional Justice Unplugged, and the Free Marisa Now Mobilization Campaign, EBONY.com is the official media partner of this critical act of 'emotional justice' in action.

Check out our mission statement here and visit EBONY.com daily through the month of October to read powerful words from men who are committed to seeing justice for Marissa Alexander.

NOTE: On Saturday October 26th, the first Brotha 2 Brotha Summit will take place in Brooklyn, featuring 100 high school boys of African descent engaged in a day long program of workshops, lectures and entertainment designed to empower them to identify their purpose and passion. They will work on creating action plans to secure a mentor, turn their passions into profit, maintain healthy lives so they can and effectively transition from boyhood to manhood. There are still slots left for registration! Keynote addresses will be delivered by Malik Yoba. Click here to register.

Today's letter is from one of the students who will participate in 'Brotha 2 Brotha.' Devon's letter condemns domestic violence and reassures Marissa that her choice to defend her body and life was the real message of that warning shot.

"Dear Marissa" by Devon

"I want you to know you was not wrong at all for firing that gun up into the air. You was sending a sign, holding your ground and letting your husband know that you wasn't taking this anymore."

"I believe domestic violence is a wrongdoing…No man should put their hands on a women, you, not harming anybody but defending yourself goes to jail. This sounds pretty foolish…"
