During a Tuesday press conference, the police major of the Atlanta Police department provided an update regarding the disappearance of an employee for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Maj. Michael O’Connor said 35-year-old Timothy Cunningham, who went missing without a trace two weeks ago, did not recently receive a promotion despite previous reports according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The Morehouse and Harvard graduate was an epidemiologist with the chronic disease department of the CDC. Previous reports stated he was a commander of the U.S. Health Services department.

O’Connor also confirmed Cunningham would not have been in the presence of infectious diseases at his place of employment. The officer stated the aforementioned in an effort to silence any conspiracies as to whether his disappearance was motivated by potential knowledge of any impending public health scares. The officer said he worked within the chronic disease department.

Cunningham was last seen by co-workers at the CDC’s Chamblee, GA office on Feb. 12. Shortly after being formally informed he would not receive the promotion, he reportedly told his managers he felt ill and left early. He has not been seen or heard from since. Cunningham left behind his phone, wallet and car. His family does not believe he left on his own accord.

“This is an extremely unusual set of circumstances,” O’Connor said. “It is not common for us to find someone’s entire belongings.”
