Chance the Rapper live-streamed his recent encounter with Chicago police just in case the situation got “out of hand,” the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
In the video, streamed on Instagram Sunday, Chance said he was in the car with Kristin Corley (the mother of his daughter, Kensli). At the time, Corley was actually the one in the driver’s seat, and she asked the Grammy Award-winning rapper why he was filming the routine traffic stop. I “just want y’all to be here in case it gets out of hand. Should be good though. Should be straight. I have great faith in humanity and the men and women that put on the badge–but, you know, you can’t be too careful,” he replied.
Chance said he, Corley and their daughter were on their way home from church when they were pulled over, and though he said he did not have any weapons or drugs in the vehicle, “policing as a system is disproportionately racist and oppressive.”
“You know how they do m—–f—— out here,” he said.
Corley was pulled over around 1 p.m. Sunday on a ramp from the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway to the eastbound Stevenson Expressway. She was stopped for a moving violation and issued a warning, state police said.
Despite live-streaming the video for safety reasons, Chance reiterated his faith in those “that put on the uniform.”
