Compton Mayor Aja Brown is dropping out of the race for California’s 44th Congressional District because she is expecting her first child, she announced on Thursday.

Brown’s announcement follows last week’s news that Stacey Dash was also withdrawing her name to unseat incumbent Democratic Rep. Nanette Barragán.

“We are overjoyed at the opportunity to become parents and look forward to starting our family. To date, one of my highest honors has been dedicating my time and life to serving my community, she said in a statement. “However, at this point in my life, my family commitments supersede my ability to expand my level of service. “Today, I am announcing that I am withdrawing my candidacy to represent the 44th Congressional District.”

Brown had announced her candidacy in March after Dash entered the race. She chose to run against Dash because she felt that the Clueless actress was “running for notoriety,” according to TMZ.

“This milestone in my personal life has provided me with a greater perspective and deepened my commitment to strengthening our families, she continued in the statement. “Thank you for your overwhelming love, support, and prayers. Our journey together is not over, it’s just beginning.”
