Ferguson, Missouri, activist Darren Seals was killed early Tuesday in North St. Louis County, STL American reports.

Seals was known for protesting in the streets following Michael Brown’s death. The 29-year-old factory line worker and hip-hop musician was extremely vocal about issues surrounding Brown’s death and the St. Louis region, and made national headlines because of his quest for justice.

Recently, Seals uploaded a Facebook Live video detailing his own encounter with members of the Ferguson Police Department, saying officers drew guns on him and his baby brother.

Fellow activists took to social media to mourn Seals’ loss. Activist Ashley Yates wrote, “Darren King D Seals stood for Mike Brown and is and will always be a part of my Ferguson family. Rest in power, D.”

Police say St. Louis’ Bureau of Crimes Against Persons and Bomb and Arson Unit were requested to assist the City of Riverview for a vehicle fire in the 9600 block of Diamond Drive.

An investigation of the incident revealed that Seals suffered a gunshot wound before the vehicle was set on fire. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.
