A Republican candidate for Dallas County commissioner in Texas said that he created a trust for his kids that rewards them for marrying someone White, BuzzFeed News reports.

Vickers “Vic” Cunningham told Dallas Morning News on Friday that he created the fund in 2010 saying “there are milestones set out in the trust.”

Cunningham went on to explain that his kids will receive money for specific accomplishments like reaching a certain age, running for public office and marrying someone from the opposite sex who is Christian.

“Again, I’m supporting what my beliefs are, I strongly support traditional family values,” Cunningham said in the interview. “That if you marry a person of the opposite sex, that’s Caucasian, that’s Christian, they will get a distribution.”

The paper withdrew its recommendation of Cunningham on Tuesday’s GOP runoff.

“It doesn’t prohibit anything and it doesn’t say you’ll never get the money. You’re just not going to get that milestone distribution,” he continued. “It’s my religious belief that marriage is between one man and one woman and I wanted to support my faith of being a Christian.”

The former criminal district judge posted on Facebook on Saturday saying that his views have changed.

“This trust was set-up during a time of concerned feelings about my brother Bill’s gay lifestyle,” he wrote. “My views on interracial marriage have evolved since I set-up the irrevocable trust in 2010, and today I would absolutely remove those conditions if I legally could.”
