Robert Champion’s mother is planning to do all that she can to seek justice for her son’s untimely death. "The term 'hazing' in itself is a very light term," said Pam Champion. "I don't look at it as being a form of bullying. Hazing is a very brutal assault … against another person." Seven of the 11 individuals charged in Robert Champion's death have turned themselves in to authorities.
Although the individuals charged could face six years in jail, Pam Champion was expecting “something that was a little more harsh.” The case has opened the eyes of many to the gruesome nature of college hazing — and possible homophobic hate crimes — shaking the image of FAMU's celebrated Marching 100 band. On top of the case, the Champions are calling for the band to disband. "FAMU cannot go on with business as usual. They need to clean house. If you don't clean the filth out, it just stays there,” Pam Champion added in a press conference on Thursday.
