The Los Angeles-based home of NBA star LeBron James was the target of a hate crime.

According to ESPN, Los Angeles police were called Wednesday to the Cleveland Cavaliers player’s residence to investigate a racial slur spray-painted on the front gate.

The home isn’t James’ primary residence, and Capt. Patricia Sandoval, who is a spokeswoman for the LAPD, said that he wasn’t home at the time.

Sandoval said an unidentified person painted spray-painted the N-word on the front gate, but someone painted over the slur before officers arrived.

James reportedly purchased the 9,440 sq. ft. home in 2015. Police are investigating.
