Kim Kardashian West has been in contact with the White House over a potential pardon for a 62-year-old-great-grandmother, Alice Marie Johnson, who’s serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug charge, Mic reports.

Kardashian West has spoken on the phone with President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, in the past few months. Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, has also been in contact with the reality TV star, TMZ reports.

Johnson’s case has been looked at by White House attorneys, sources told Mic.

She has been in prison since October 1996 and told Mic in an op-ed piece from last October that she went into drug trafficking to make money after she lost her job at FedEx, got a divorce and lost her son in a motorcycle accident.

“I felt like a failure,” Johnson wrote. “I went into a complete panic and out of desperation, I made one of the worst decisions of my life to make some quick money. I became involved in a drug conspiracy.”

Kardashian West tweeted about Johnson’s case in October after watching Mic’s video about Johnson’s case.

TMZ obtained a thank-you letter that Johnson wrote to Kardashian West where she expressed her “deep and heartfelt gratitude” for helping bring her story to light.

“Ms. Kardashian, you are literally helping to save my life and restore me to my family,” Johnson wrote. “I was drowning and you have thrown me a jacket.”
