LeBron James Gets into Row with Local Cleveland Brewery

A Cleveland beer company has run afoul of LeBron James and has stepped away from using his name and image in its social media marketing. During the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Monday night game against the Toronto Raptors, James is pictured taking a beer out of the hands of a fan in a playful way. The Great Lakes Brewing Company began to tweet the image of him with the Dortmunder Gold beer. But NBA athletes are not allowed to endorse alcoholic beverages. “This is about the last thing I’m trying to worry about right now, my agent and my legal team will take care of it,” James told Cleveland.com, saying he believed they were trying to benefit from his image.

Officer Accused in Philando Castile Shooting Seeks New Setting for Trial

Attorneys for the suburban Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot Philando Castile are asking the Minnesota Supreme Court for a change of venue in the high-profile case. Jeronimo Yanez is charged with manslaughter in the July 6, 2016 shooting, but his lawyers say statements made by Ramsey County Attorney John Choi and Gov. Mark Dayton are reason to move the trial to other Minnesota municipalities like Brainerd, Duluth, Hastings or St. Cloud. But a Ramsey County district judge denied the initial request, saying the publicity surrounding the case does not mean the venue needs to be changed. It is unclear when the state’s supreme court would hand down its ruling.

FAMU Law School Dean Dismissed After Short Time in Job

The dean of the law school at Florida A&M University was dismissed after only 16 months on the job, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The removal also comes with the dismissal of the deans of the HBCU’s journalism, education and pharmacy schools, the university announced. Angela Felecia Epps and the other deans will return to positions of tenured faculty members. LeRoy Pernell, the former dean will take over in the interim as FAMU searches for a replacement. Epps took over the job in 2016, but as bar passage results were released last month, the law school declined 11 percent from the prior year. But she said in an e-mail to faculty that scores were within 10 percentage points of the state average, complying with American Bar Association standards.
