UCLA Bruins guard LiAngelo Ball, along with two other teammates, could be sentenced to 3-10 years in prison if convicted of shoplifting while in China.

Ball is the younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers guard Lonzo Ball.

According to Bleacher Report, the men are accused of stealing during a team trip to the country this week. William Nee is a researcher with Amnesty International. He noted that Ball, teammates Cody Riley and Jalen Hill could be detained without bail for more than a month.

“I would say they could be in quite a bit of trouble if they have solid proof that they shoplifted,” Nee said of the situation involving the players. “However, part of it will depend on whether their lawyers, the university, or the U.S. consulate can advocate and negotiate on their behalf.”

Authorities reportedly took the three players into custody in relation to an alleged robbery at a Louis Vuitton store near the hotel where the team is currently staying. The players were reportedly interrogated by approximately 20 Chinese police officers. The police also allegedly questioned members of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Bruins’ opponents on Friday evening.

“We are aware of a situation involving UCLA student-athletes in Hangzhou, China,” UCLA said in a statement. “The University is cooperating fully with local authorities on this matter, and we have no further comment at this time.”
