Skeletal remains discovered in October were declared as belonging to a Washington, D.C. resident who went missing in late April.

NBC Washington reports the last time 22-year-old Marty McMillan Jr. was seen alive by friends and family was before leaving to go on a date with a woman whom he’d met on the popular dating website Plenty of Fish.

Officials discovered the McMillan Jr.’s remains in the woods in Prince George County, Maryland. They weren’t able to confirm they belonged to the young man on Thursday, which would have been his 23rd birthday. Police believe he was shot inside of an apartment in the area.

Police have declared the killing a homicide. His grandmother Forlesia Cook discovered his car in May three miles away from the last place he was sighted. NBC Washington spoke with her after his remains were found this week.

“He was a human being. He didn’t deserve to be laying out there all that time like that, just thrown away like a piece of trash,” she told the news outlet.

The woman whom he planned to go on a date with claimed she never met up with him. He made his final phone call to her although she told investigators her phone was not with her when he reached out to her. Officials discovered his card was used multiple times after he went missing. He just received a job as an electrician.

A $25,000 reward is being offered for anyone offering information that can lead to the arrests of McMillan’s Jr.’s his alleged killers.
