The city of Milwaukee is experiencing an HIV and Syphilis outbreak, the AIDS Research Center of Wisconsin confirmed.

WTKR reports that at least 125 people have contracted the two diseases, and they seem to be connected in some way.

AIDS Resource Center (ARCW) officials said the “cluster” of people have been discovered and are either living with HIV or other sexually transmitted infections. Some, according to the center, are even children.

“Certainly this is an HIV and syphilis cluster,” Michael Gifford, president of ARCW, said.

According to Gifford, Milwaukee now accounts for more than half of the state’s HIV cases.

“Milwaukee unfortunately has one of the highest STD rates of any city in America,” Gifford said.

“What we know for many years now is the HIV epidemic has been disproportionately affecting young people,” said Gifford.
