Former Sacramento Kings players DeMarcus Cousins and Matt Barnes offered to pay for the funeral of the unarmed black man killed by Sacramento police, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Stephon Clark, 22, was killed by police officers in his grandparents’ backyard on March 21 after cops suspected that he was breaking into vehicles and homes in the area.
Cops reportedly fired 20 times at Clark who was holding a cell phone at the time of his death.
“Thoughts & prayers go out to Stephon Clark & his family! Another pointless killing this time in my hometown of Sacramento,” Barnes wrote on Instagram. “Who’s gonna be next..? Your brother, son, uncle, dad…?”

On Thursday, hundreds of protestors demonstrated outside the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento over Clark’s death during a Kings game. Fans who had tickets for the basketball game could not enter the arena due to protests.
Cousins spent six years in the NBA playing as a center for the Kings. He currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans. Barnes, who went to Del Campo High School in the Sacramento area, was dismissed by the Kings last season, according to the Sacramento Bee.
A GoFundMe set up by Clark’s family to pay for funeral costs has already raised over $73,000.
