President Barack Obama addressed the press today for the first time since his re-election.

The focus of the press conference was on the economic crisis and the solutions that would be necessary in order to soften its impact. The president’s proposal is to enforce the wealthy to pay more in taxes. “We should not hold the middle class hostage while we debate tax cuts for the wealthy,” he stated.

Bipartisanship appears to be on the agenda as well with some Republicans agreeing to more revenues from the wealthy. His goal is to work alongside the Senate and the House for a resolution before the holidays.

President Obama also spoke on General Petraeus’s scandal, stating that despite Petraeus’s own views that he did “not meet the standards that he felt were necessary as the director of CIA,” he believes that the general provided the US an “extraordinary service.”
