A professor at Golden West College was caught on video Thursday making racist comments to an Asian family. Tony Kao, the man who recorded the encounter, says he was on a walk with his wife and their baby when he claims the professor spewed her bigoted comments.

Kao later uploaded the video to Facebook and has now amassed more than half a million views. “We encountered a bigot and a racist today in our neighborhood in Long Beach,” Kao’s post reads.

In the 30-second video clip, Kao is heard telling the woman, “I want you to tell everyone why you told us to ‘go back to our country.’”

“You need to go back to your home country,” she replies before Kao questions her on what that even means.

Since the release of the viral video, many of the comments have identified the woman as a counseling professor at Golden West College. Officials from the school have since denounced the professor’s remarks.

“It has recently come to our attention that there was a video posted on Facebook of a GWC faculty member making comments that the college does not condone or support. Golden West College believes in an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.”

Due to the viral nature of his initial posting, Kao put up a new status where he says his intention was positive and in no way does he want hatred or anger to be the response.

“It is our hope the offender is aware and apologetic for what she has said to us, but all we can do is hope. Although my post was about something negative, the message we want to convey is POSITIVE, and that is to be respectful to one another no matter of what race, creed, or color.”

There has been no word on if the school will take any further action.
