Rae Carruth Decides Not to Fight for Custody Of Son He Tried to Kill

Former NFL player Rae Carruth no longer plans to fight for custody of the son he tried to have killed.

The 44-year-old, who has been imprisoned for conspiring to kill his pregnant girlfriend in 1999, will be released from prison in October. A couple of weeks ago, the 44-year-old told The Charlotte Observer that upon being freed, he wanted to look after his son. Carruth’s 18-year-old son, who has cerebral palsy and brain damage as a result of the shooting, currently lives with his maternal grandmother Saundra Adams.

19 years ago, Carruth hired someone to kill 24-year-old Cherica Adams.

The publication now reports the former Carolina Panthers player has now had a change of heart after facing heavy criticism.

“For all involved or invested in this ordeal, please calm down,” Carruth in a letter to The Charlotte Observer. “I will no longer be pursuing a relationship with Chancellor and Ms. Adams. I promise to leave them be, which I now see is in everyone’s best interest.”

Although Adams has said she’s forgiven Carruth, she said she had no intentions of relinquishing custody of her grandson.
