The Golden 1 Center in Sacramento was far less packed than usual for a Kings vs. Atlanta Hawks game Thursday night, as hundreds of demonstrators protesting the police shooting of Stephon Clark barricaded all entrances to the arena, keeping hundreds of ticketed fans from entering the building.

Sports journalist Scott March live-tweeted from the game, sharing a photo of the nearly empty crowd inside.

“No starting lineups or national anthem, just straight to the tip-off.  No one being allowed in still as arena remains locked down.  Smallest crowd I’ve ever seen to watch an NBA game.”

The Kings released this statement following tip-off:

“Tonight’s game began with a delay. Due to law enforcement being unable to ensure ticketed fans could safely enter the arena, the arena remains closed and we ask fans outside to travel home. We will issue further information soon regarding a refund.”

Sacramento Kings owner and chairman Vivek Ranadivé addressed the crowd following Thursday night’s game

Sacramento law enforcement officers fatally shot Clark 20 times after claiming to have mistaken his cellphone for a weapon.
