According to the latest polls, President Obama and Mitt Romney are neck and neck, or Obama is up 9 points, or Mitt Romney is up 4 points. In sum: national tracking polls gives the media something to talk about but matter very little as the general election race shapes up.
House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) the only Jewish member of the Republican conference basically admitted that House Republicans have a problem with race and anti-Semitism. Start the clock now for when Rep. Cantor is forced to “clarify” his remarks.
The Secret Service prostitution scandal led to three agents being forced out of the organization with the investigation ongoing. More resignations are expected in the coming weeks. Eleven agents were relieved of duty and stripped of security clearances after a dispute over payment to a prostitute in Columbia during last week’s summit on drug policy. What an embarrassment.
Become familiar with the name Kris Kobach. He is an advisor to the Romney campaign even though campaign aides are trying to downplay his involvement. Kobach is Kansas’ secretary of state and wrote the model legislation that developed into the racist Arizona “Papers Please” immigration law. Mitt “Etch-A-Sketch” Romney is trying his darndest to make much needed Latino voters forget he said ridiculous things like “self-deportation” during the Republican primary. Employing advisors like Kobach makes this difficult.
The Republican Party is continuing their opposition to the re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act. While the bill is expected to pass the Senate, the outcome in the House is somewhat unclear. Republicans, particularly male Republicans in the House, have come out in opposition to the measure citing added assistance for undocumented immigrants who are victims of domestic violence as well as assistance for LGBT victims. In 2012, there is opposition to helping violence of domestic violence. A reminder for November that this opposition is all Republican.
