President Donald Trump is still facing backlash after reportedly referring to Haiti, El Salvador and several African nations as “s**thole countries.” In a recent letter to several African leaders, however, his words are a bit more respectful.

In a letter sent to African leaders this week, which was obtained by NBC News, the President says he “deeply respects” native Africans and promised “strong and respectful relationships” with the continent’s several countries.

Coincidently, the letter comes just before a planned African Union summit taking place in Ethiopia next weekend.

45 also offered “best wishes for a successful summit,” while claiming his administration will guarantee “free, fair and reciprocal trade” with African nations, while working to “safeguard legal immigration.”

The letter also states Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will make an “extended visit” in March.
