As most of us know at this tragically abysmal point in political history, if you’re audacious enough to go after President Donald Trump, you’re subsequently inviting barrages of malice from uber-conservative nincompoops with far too much time to exercise their Twitter fingers.

LaVar Ball may have been privy to this pattern when he said Trump didn’t need his personal expression of gratitude for his role in helping his son escape legal ramifications when he and his UCLA basketball teammates shoplifted in China. But “Reading Rainbow” host LeVar Burton never signed up for it.

Despite having been thanked by the athletes for his assistance, the president pleaded for further recognition. But Ball had no intentions of tending to the president’s ego during a Monday interview with CNN.

“I don’t have to go around saying ‘thank you’ to everybody,” Ball said. “He didn’t call me. I didn’t shake his hand. He didn’t have to say nothing, but I’m just saying. I have to know what somebody is doing before I say ‘thank you.’ I’m not just going to go around saying thank you.”

Following Ball’s remarks, some Trump-lovers began trolling Ball on Twitter. Others, as HuffPost pointed out, mistakenly came after the former host of children’s program “Reading Rainbow” LeVar Burton.

Burton was forced to acknowledge the wrongful trolling on Tuesday in a tweet where he mentioned Ball.

Poor guy.
