One person is dead and three others were wounded following a stabbing attack that took place at the University of Texas campus Monday.

ABC News reports that the survivors have been transported to a local hospital with “potentially serious injuries.” Officials say one person is in custody.

The incident took place near Gregory gym on the University of Texas at Austin campus. Travis County Emergency Medical Services confirmed the fatality.

The suspect, identified by campus authorities as Kendrex J. White, 20, was apprehended after attacking four people. White, who is a student at the university, reportedly committed his crime in front of roughly 25 student witnesses.

Police say they received a call around 1:49 p.m. regarding an individual attacking someone outside the gym. An officer arrived on the scene roughly two minutes later and observed someone who appeared to be armed with what looked like a large hunting knife walking away from a victim.

Three more victims were found a block away, officials said. White allegedly walked around the premises “calmly” as he attacked students, Austin Police Chief David Carter said in a press conference Monday afternoon.

White is currently being detained at police headquarters and there is no known motive at this time. He has not yet been charged, officials say.

Story developing.
