After being charged with the murder of 21-year-old Justin Holmes, Cameron Terrell was somehow able to resume classes at his school.
The 18-year-old belongs to a South Los Angeles gang and was one of three people involved in the Oct. 1 shooting. LAPD said the drive-by shooting in which Terrell was reportedly the driver was gang-related. From screenshots of a YouTube music video in which Terrell is featured, the wealthy White teen appears to belong to a group of Crips.
Holmes was not affiliated with any gangs. After being jailed for a week, Terrell was released on a $5 million bail. The high school senior was able to return to school and parents of Palo Verdes High School weren’t having it.
“We are here to say this child, this child-man — he’s 18 — does not belong in school with our children, with our 14-year-olds, with our 15-year-olds,” one parent told KCBS-TV. “He presents a danger to them.”
“For a school suspension of any kind, there has to be a direct nexus to the school itself,” Austin said. “These allegations have no nexus to our school. The allegations and charges against a student without a nexus to school would not be grounds for exclusion.”
