A South Carolina white supremacist who was planning an attack “in the spirit of Dylann Roof” pleaded guilty to weapons charges this week.

AOL reports that Benjamin McDowell faces up to 10 years in prison.

In 2016, officials first began looking into McDowell’s behavior in 2016 when he threatened a synagogue in Myrtle Beach on social media. Local officials were also monitoring him after he reportedly became friends with white supremacist groups. McDowell also reportedly got tattoos associated with racist groups while in prison for burglary, the FBI said.

“I seen what Dylann Roof did and in my heart I reckon I got a little bit of hatred,” the undercover agent recalled McDowell saying.

McDowell also wrote that Jews were part of a plot to eliminate the white race.

“All they wanne do is stay loaded on drugs the Jews put here to destroy white man and they fest on the drugs (sic),” he wrote in January of 2017, according to the complaint.

Roof was arrested after murdering nine black worshippers who were attending Bible study at Emanuel AME Church in South Carolina in July 2016. Last year, he was sentenced to nine consecutive life sentences.
