The George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin case is spiraling into another degree of absurdity, as the avowed shooter's father sparks another media firestorm. Last night, Robert Zimmerman spoke out on FOX News' "Hannity," explaining behind a veil of anonymity his son's side of the story and insisting Zimmerman acted in self-defense. Appearing alongside his son's lawyers, Craig Sonner and Hal Uhrig, the position was put forth that Martin was the one following George and was shot as a result of feeling that his life was in imminent danger.
Robert related the story to host Sean Hannity, saying, "He had been texting his sister and said he was going to the grocery store. He saw somebody that did not live in the community wandering behind some town homes." The elder Zimmerman then accused the 17-year-old Martin of following his son to a street corner, stating, "Trayvon came from that area where the sidewalks meet, asked my son whether he had a problem… he said no, and Martin said, 'Well, you do now.'" The father also insisted that his son was the one recorded screaming on the 911 tape and not Trayvon Martin.
"George was there yelling for help for at least 40 seconds. There is absolutely no doubt it's him on the tape," he argued." As of this writing, the 28-year-old Zimmerman has yet to be arrested and charged.
