OH SNAP! The 10 Most Shocking, Controversial Album Covers

The Good, the Bad, and the Controversial. These albums were bangers but the covers ultimately earned them the stamp of BANNED!
OH SNAP! The 10 Most Shocking, Controversial Album Covers
Electric Ladyland by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, 1968. These women bared it all on the cover of Jimi Hendrix’s experimental band. And the fact that there’s only one black face in the crowd Funky As I Wanna Be by MC Pooh, 1992. The issue isn’t so much what’s wrong with this picture as it is what’s going on. A bikini wax? A pap smear? Back to the Shit by Millie Jackson, 1989. Friends don’t let friends take photographs of them taking a dump. Ever My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West, 2010. Painted by George Condo, Kanye’s cover art was rejected from certain stores, a fact that Kanye boasted via Twitter Lovesexy by Prince, 1988. This is the album cover that your man probably made you toss after he did a double take or two The Chronic by Dr. Dre, 1992. Designed in a similar style to Zig-Zag rolling papers, The Chronic cover could be considered pretty blunt Party Music by The Coup, 2001. The Coup members rap about conspiracy theories, including the events of 9/11 and the roled played by the media. Released two months after 9/11, this cover was considered insensitive and unpatriotic, and subsequently replaced Home Invasion by Ice-T, 1993. Ice-T actually hit the nail on the head in this depiction of white youth becoming enthralled with gangster lifestyle. In short, this album cover screamed, “Hide your kids and hide your wife.” Untitled by Nas, 2008. Known for as a gifted storyteller, Nas usually uses words to paint a picture. This time, a photograph portraying the scars of a whip lashing and evoking slavery said it all Death Certificate by Ice Cube, 1991. Banned in the state of Oregon, this bold album cover basically gives the finger to America the beautiful. It probably didn’t help that Ice Cube is mean mugging as cool as a cucumber either
