LIKE A PRO: 3 Tips from Celebrity Makeup Expert Malika James

You should feel sexy when applying makeup on a promising Saturday night. Who knows what adventures you might get into. Becoming an overnight vixen takes but a few strokes of a makeup brush and the application of several sizzling shades.

With the help of Malika James, celebrity makeup artist for Janelle Monae, ‘The Game’ and ‘Single Ladies,’ we’ve identified three ways to transform into a daring diva.

EYE DO: There’s a reason why vintage starlets are still heralded as a framework for Black beauty. Be it Eartha Kitt, Lena Horne or Pam Grier, these ladies knew the importance of simply high-lighting your eyes.

“50's themed eyeliner with a natural lid is super sexy. Use MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Creamliner with an angled eyeliner brush and line your lids. Follow up with an application of a navy or deep black liquid eyeliner. Keep the line fairly thick and wing the tip by slightly curving upwards toward the brow. Pair with nude lips and a hint of bronzer”

KILLER KISSES: Gloss is good, but a bold, matte lip turns heads. Pucker up to a shade that shows off the shape and fullness of your pout.

“Red lips make women feel beautiful and powerful. MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo with MAC lip pencil in Redd is a sure show stopper. Since Ruby Woo is a matte lipstick, you must add a little moisture to the lips before applying for a smooth application. Contour the creases of the cheeks with a dark foundation to give the face dimension. Highlight the eyes with a champagne shimmer and use extra mascara.”

SECRET WEAPON: Lengthening your lashes completes your look. Always keep a pair of falsies nearby.

“I will admit that applying lashes takes a lot of patience and practice, but, if done right, you’ll look mesmerizing. If you can't do it yourself, go to your hair stylist or your nearby cosmetics counter. A nice pair, like MAC's #7, will give you real diva appeal.”
