This week we caught up with nail artist, Spifster Sutton. The Chicago-based nail artist was in New York City for a week, so of course we had to make sure we got our nails done before she left town.

The Trend: It’s no secret that Beyoncé’s visual album has been the talk of the world since it’s surprise drop back in December. With clever puns like “surfboard” and “watermelon”, it was only a matter of time before her saucy lyrics inspired someone’s manicure.

EBONY: How did you create this design?

Spifster Sutton: "I been dranking…watermelon" is turning into 2014's must quoted statement. I loved how you came up  with the idea to put it in the nail art form. Styled after the Hannah Bronfman's popular "I Don't Pop Molly, I Rock Tom Ford" nail art (designed by one of my favorite artists, Nails by Mei), I came up with cute ways to symbolize the lyrics. The other hand was just a freestyle of random objects that I thought would speak to your style.

EBONY: What do you feel is your artistic significance when it comes to nail art?

SS: I love getting new ideas from my clients. It really speaks volumes of the person they are, and I'm able to use that in creating their own personalized designs.
