This week, we caught up with Poochiez Nails of Poochiez Pawz Nail Studio in Atlanta, for her elegant approach to the invisible space manicure.

The Trend: Add a chic twist to your winter manicure with this negative-space nail art. While black has stood in as the go-to winter nude, pairing it with the invisible-space technique gives it a subdued bit of drama that oozes sophistication. Try this design with other dark shades, like navy or deep rouges, for a one-of-a-kind look. Check out the details below!

EBONY: How did you create this design?

Poochiez Nails: I polished the entire nail first using black polish. We like Butter London in Union Jack Black ($15; bigelowchemist.com). After allowing the polish dry for a couple of minutes, I used a very small pointed brush, which I dipped in a small amount of acetone to gently create the negative space design. Let it dry and then add your clear polish. Try Seche Vite Quick Dry Top Coat ($9.99; ulta.com).

EBONYWhat do you feel is your artistic significance when it comes to nail art?

PN: It’s my ability to establish new, stylish, teachable trends. I desire to establish paths that others can follow to hone their craft as well.

EBONY: Who is your favorite “nail icon” at the moment?

PN: Probably myself!
