This week we caught up with South Miami-based nail artist Lynette Swain, who’s currently freelancing and working as a nail instructor at the Hollywood Institute beauty school.

The Trend: Label nail art has been around for years. These days you may see the Chanel or Louis Vuitton logo painted on a couple of fingers, but Lynette kept it simple and less gaudy by using a print from an Alexander McQueen clutch.

EBONY: Why did you create this particular design?

Lynette Swain: This design was inspired by one of Alexander McQueen autumn/winter collections [and gave me the] ability to add fashion to nail art.

EBONY: What do you feel is your artistic significance when it comes to nail art?

LS: My artistic skills are pretty much based on what I see and how I feel (fashion, art…etc.). My nail art stands out in a way where other nail techs can be inspired. I love rhinestones and feel that rhinestones add a little spunk to my nail designs. It is very important to make sure that your work is very clean; pay attention to details and always keep your work well presented. Remember that your customer is your walking canvas, so make sure your art speaks for itself and you.
