From runway inspirations to one-of-a-kind designs, our picks are sure to keep you up on your nail game while giving you the 411 on how to recreate many of the looks yourself. This week, we caught up with freelance nail artist and Instagram star Karen Graham to get the scoop on this 22K manicure.

The Trend: In several cultures, gold is seen as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Both the beauty and fashion industry have drawn inspiration from this rare metal. Not sure how to show off your golden style? Show them you are worth your weight in gold with a luxe gold-leaf mani to amp up any ensemble. Check out the details below.

EBONY: How did you create this design?

Karen Graham: For this design, I used two coats of polish for the taupe base color; we recommend, CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Particulière ($27). Next, I used one coat of gLORIous 22K Gold Leaf Topcoat. (Editor’s Note: Should you have a hard time finding this one, we recommend Rococo in Gold Leaf Lacquer ($48.00).)  Finally, I finished with a clear top coat. Try, Duri Brush 'n Go Top Coat ($8.00).

EBONY: You use the hashtag #crelly on many of your nail art photos. What does this mean?

KG: I actually heard it for the first time myself on Instagram. Crellies are hybrid crosses between Crème and Jelly polishes: a polish that is a creme, but has the high shine and juicy looks of a gel polish. Crellies are my go-to polish when I can’t make up my mind of what style or design to do.
