This sexy, sultry summer is the perfect time to try out that amazing hair color you’ve had your eye on. The heat may hinder a few of your style choices, but you can definitely wow with a shade that pops. Ursula Stephen, Rihanna’s personal hairstylist and the hottest hands in Brooklyn, shared a few tips to perfecting the season’s top trend, along with Rihanna’s mane moves.

“People are still going to be doing a lot of color,” Stephen remarked of the upcoming trends for late summer. “It will still be the ombre trend, but it will be more of a warm honey color instead of that stark blonde.” Not familiar? The ombre trend flaunts darks roots that gradually shade into a lighter hue. The look has recently paraded itself on the heads of Ciara and Rihanna.

“If you’re going to do it, you have to be really smart about how to break up the colors. You can’t just have one color at the top and then a completely different color at the bottom without any thought,” advises Stephen. “If you’re going to do the blonde and the black, strategically mix in subtle pieces of black into the blonde, so it looks like a natural transition.”

The savvy stylist, who’s currently rocking a sleek, mid-length bob for the summer, says her must-have product for traveling is dry shampoo. “I must have it! It saves my life. You know when you’re traveling, you can’t always wash your client’s hair, so I put in a little of that and I’m good to go!”

As for the chameleon that is Rihanna, Stephen would love to predict what style the superstar might rock next, but it’s nearly impossible. “I don’t even know,” she says, thinking to herself. “She’s actually been surprising me a lot lately. I think that she’s gonna stick with the black hair for a little while. It looks healthy and healthy hair is always trending.”
