6LACK is feeling high after covering Erykah Badu‘s “On & On.”

On the latest episode of triple j’s “Like a Version,” the upcoming rapper shared a live cover of the standout single off of 1997’s Baduizm.

Adorning a beanie and an oversized Sade T-shirt, the Atlanta rapper shared his own rendition of the soulful track. Backed by a live band, he harmonized with the original rhythm of the old school jam, “I wish we didn’t make love first / You know that tore apart everything from the start.”

In an additional clip, he shared his connection with the legendary soul artist. “Her son is definitely named Seven, my daughter’s definitely named Six,” he mused. “I think the funniest thing about the connection between me and her is, when my daughter was being born, I had a show at the Observatory in California so I missed my daughter’s birth. While I’m listening to her on the phone, Erykah Badu is performing in the background. I’m crying on the phone, Erykah is singing, I’m listening to her being born. I’m always gonna have a connection to her and everything she does,” he added.

Always one to uplift and inspire, Badu FaceTimed 6LACK to share her appreciation, which he released via Twitter. “When you cover a @fatbellybella song and she says she wants to call you in the morning to talk,” he tweeted. “I love u beautiful son,” she responded. Check out clips below.
