Writer-cartoonist Aaron McGruder has signed a first-look development deal with Adult Swim, the network announced today. The deal comes a month before the “Boondocks” creator’s live-action comedy “Black Jesus” premieres on Adult Swim. The series finds the religious figure living in present-day Compton, Calif., on a mission to spread love and kindness throughout the neighborhood.

“With ‘The Boondocks’ and the upcoming ‘Black Jesus’ series, we consider Aaron very instrumental in the success of Adult Swim and this deal is the continuation of a great partnership,” said Mike Lazzo, executive vice president and creative director of Adult Swim, in a statement.
