Famed Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek could potentially be stepping down from his position in 2020. During an interview with TMZ earlier this week, the Canadian-personality suggested Laura Coates, a legal analyst on CNN, as a worthy replacement on the syndicated game show.

Trebek initially offered up Alex Faust, the play-by-play announcer for the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, as a suitable host if he chooses to leave the show when his contract is up in two years. However, TMZ owner Harvey Levin asked him if he had thought of a woman to do the job and that is when he mentioned Coates.

“There is an attorney, Laura Coates,” said Trebek. “She’s African-American, and she appears on some of the cable news shows from time to time.”
That’s not all that appears on her resume. The former civil rights lawyer wrote the book, You Have the Right: A Constitutional Guide to Policing the Police, which was published in 2016. She now teaches law at George Washington University and also hosts The Laura Coates Show, a radio show on SiriusXM.
Upon hearing Trebek’s nod, Coates tweeted about being a longtime fan of “[her] fave game show ever,” and said she still watches with her kids.
