Singer Alicia Keys may have what it takes to win the hearts and minds of Republicans in a way that Democrats have been failing to do for years.

In a new video she urges Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to bring a vote to criminal justice reform, the Fallin’ singer sends the GOP lawmaker a Valentine.

“You can maybe be my Valentine if you help me spread some love,” said Keys in a video made for WeAreHereMovement.com.

Don’t send this video to the gossip blog, she’s not leaving producer husband Swizz Beatz to be a Capitol Hill spouse. The purpose here is to get lawmakers to address mass imprisonment.

Criminal justice reform has been a topic among 2016 presidential candidates. Both Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have spoken out on the need for it and Republicans like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie have done so as well.

Keys is (very persuasively, we might add) asking Ryan to take a look at the effect passing such legislation will bring.

“Help bring justice reform to a vote so we can keep families together and reunite those that have been unjustly torn apart by excessive incarceration instead of just getting the help they needed,” she asks, then encourages others to do the same by going to the website.

“You’re welcome in advance,” she adds with a smile. “For the thousands of love notes that are coming your way.”
