Ron DeSantis defeated Mayor Andrew Gillum in the Florida gubernatorial race, CNBC reports.

Gillum conceded the closely watched race, getting 48.9 percent of the vote to DeSantis’ 49.9 percent.

“I sincerely regret that I couldn’t bring it home for you, but I can guarantee you this: I’m not going anywhere. We’re going to fight,” said Gillum.

DeSantis received support from President Donald Trump during the highly heated campaign, which saw Trump call Gillum a “thief” and where accusations of racism were brought up.

Following Gillums’ Democratic primary victory, DeSantis warned Florida voters to not “monkey this up” by voting for the Tallahassee mayor.

Racist robocalls by White Supremacist groups calling Gillum a “negro” and a “monkey” also made waves in the weeks leading up to the election.
