R&B star Ashanti sat down with EBONY to discuss new her film, Stuck, of which she is also an executive producer.

The musical film was the Long Island, New York native’s first, making her uneasy initially that it would look “corny.”

“Honestly, sometimes, when you think of musicals and you think of films, and you mesh them, it could come off a little corny, you know what I mean? So I was a little bit nervous and wanted to make sure that it did not come off corny.”

It was also important to the actress that women were able to connect to her character, Eve, who contemplates having an abortion after being abandoned by her lover.

“Her situation, I’m sure, tons of females have gone through it, just being in a position where you have to make a life decision on your own that’s going to affect you for the rest of your life, whichever way you go and maybe not having the help that you need.”
