J. Cole is no stranger to taking shots at the competition, but the “False Prophets” rapper’s latest jabs are aimed at a target way bigger than rap. Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only Tour stopped in Baltimore, MD on Sunday (August 6), where the artist chose to address a hot button topic that’s currently surrounding the Baltimore Ravens, and the NFL as a whole.

Throwing his support behind currently unemployed Colin Kaepernick, Cole remarked that the Ravens organization and the city of Baltimore should be championing someone like the quarterback and activist. Although perfectly qualified to take a spot on several NFL rosters (including with the Ravens), Kaepernick has seemingly been blackballed by the NFL for taking a knee during the national anthem last season. The 29-year-old committed the act in protest of the many racially-motivated and rarely punished killing of African-Americans by police in this country.

“Matter of fact, don’t y’all think that someone that got money, power and fame should be standing up for them type of shits?” Cole asked the crowd. “Baltimore, the shit that’s happening here, don’t you think that somebody should risk their whole livelihood and their whole life to talk about this shit? Even if it cost them their money, their job, their life? Don’t that sound like Colin Kaepernick? Don’t that sound like what he doing? And he trying to come to Baltimore, the city that seems to need that shit for real.”

Closing out his comments on the matter, Cole proceeded to ask concertgoers if they’d be supporting the team by attending games going forward. While, the rapper stated “You could do what you want” after posing the question, he’s clearly taking a stance against the league’s treatment of Kaepernick.

With regards to the upcoming NFL season, Colin Kaepernick is still a sideline story. The offseason is almost at a close and the former 49ers QB is still doesn’t have a contract with any NFL team. Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins have just agreed to terms 34-year-old quarterback Jay Cutler, who’ll be coming out of retirement for the job. In his 11 seasons in the NFL, Cutler has only been to the playoffs once. Kaepernick on the other hand who has a higher overall Quarterback Rating than both Jay Cutler and the man he’s replacing due to injury, Ryan Tannehill.

This isn’t the first time that J. Cole has publicly supported Kaepernick and his decision to kneel during the Nation Anthem. He also wore the quarterback’s jersey during a performance last year.
