Vogue magazine will soon feel the “Black Effects” of having R&B superstar Beyoncé grace the cover of its signature September fashion issue. The Southern songstress has been given “unprecedented control” over her shoot, bringing in the first Black photographer to ever shoot a Vogue cover in the magazine’s 126-year history, according to Huffington Post.

The lemsman, 23-year-old Tyler Mitchell, came highly recommended by Queen Bey, who “used her power and influence to get him that assignment,” according to one source.

“I depict black people and people of color in a really real and pure way,” Mitchell told The New York Times in December. “There is an honest gaze to my photos.”

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour tends to hire photographers with a more traditional fashion background, but she trusts Bey’s vision enough to let her take control. It could also be preparation for a more relaxing life post-Vogue; Wintour is reportedly stepping down from her role once the September issue is wrapped.
