The Black Girl Magic Ball returned for its 6th year for a phenomenal display of sisterhood and community.

Hosted by poet Mahogany L. Brown, the event brought together generations of Black girls, past and present, to celebrate and revel in their womanhood and shared identity. Attendees enjoyed dinner by Keep It Tasteful with Chefs Keema & Adréa, musical vibes from DJ Saige and a live performance from Be Steadwell.

Honorees of the event this year were Ilyasah Shabazz, author, activist and daughter of Malcolm X & Betty Shabazz; Lindsay Peoples Wagner, Editor-in-Chief of New York magazine's The Cut; Sonya Renee Taylor, author, poet and founder of The Body is Not An Apology movement; Tommi Vincent, chef, life coach and COO of Tommi Country; and Elisa Del Valle, Assistant Head for Student Life and Director of Social Justice and Inclusion at The Ethel Walker All-Girls School.

Proceeds from the event went to supporting the work of Urban Word, which serves over 25,000 teens annually in NYC.

“The Black Girl Magic Ball is about creating an inclusive and powerful community that lifts up women and women of color and celebrates their lives and accomplishments. It is an opportunity for us to honor the special ways in which our talents, creative expression, style, and magic, bring so much joy and wonder to the spaces we occupy,” said Shanelle Gabriel, Executive Director of Urban Word in a statement. We are thrilled to have this year’s honorees join us and shower them with love and praise as well as create connections that spark inspiration and lasting friendships.”
