Five decades after the tumult of the 1960s, the founding of the Black Panther Party, the Voting Rights Act, and assassinations of Malcolm X, Medgar Evers and Martin Luther King, Black America has made strides in some areas, while at the same time has remained stagnant or even taken steps back since those days.

Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., has decided to take a look at those last 50 years of the African-American experience in a new documentary series for PBS entitled Black America Since MLK: And Still I Rise set to air next month

The show comes two years after Gates’ acclaimed series The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross and picks up where that series left off. In it, Gates is joined by thought leaders, notables and scholars to remark about where we’ve been, how we got here and maybe where we’re going.

The series airs Nov. 15 and 22 in two-parts, but click “play” above for a preview of it here.
