Paramount Network and JAY-Z have teamed up to bring to television Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story.

The film, based on the short but substantial life and legacy of Trayvon Martin, will be a six-part nonscripted documentary series that takes a “definitive look at one of the most talked about and controversial events in the last decade that spurred the impactful worldwide Black Lives Matter movement,” according to a press release sent to EBONY.

Martin, 17, was shot and killed as he walked to his Sanford, Florida home in February 2012by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch member.

In 2013, Zimmerman was acquitted of a second-degree murder charge after claiming he shot Martin in self-defense. The ruling sparked protests and outrage, and Black Lives Matter was born.

“The series delves deep into the heart of the story, which is more than a tragic narrative about a young man’s life cut short,” the press release continues. “It’s a story about race, politics, power, money and the criminal justice system.”

In addition to JAY-Z, Sybrina Fulton, Tracy Martin, Chachi Senior, Michael Gasparro, Jenner Furst, Julia Willoughby Nason and Nick Sandow will serve as executive producers.

Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story will premiere in July on the Paramount Network.
