Michelle Obama Plays B-Ball for HBCUs

The first lady again proved how physically fit she is at the women’s Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) basketball tournament last weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina. In town for two Democratic Party events, Michelle Obama took time after the women’s basketball game to promote her “Let’s Move” fitness campaign. The CIAA, which is made up mostly of historically black colleges and universities, celebrates it 100th anniversary this year.

Before playing a game of relay with two Charlotte elementary schools and Senator Kay Hagan D-NC, Obama spoke to the crowd about her family’s love of the sport. "There's no better way than basketball to illustrate the point (of staying healthy.) We are a basketball family and my husband is a crazy fanatic about basketball," she said. The Time Warner Arena where the event took place will also be the site of the Democratic National Convention in September. North Carolina is also a crucial state in Obama’s reelection. The president is scheduled to make a trip there on Wednesday.

Is the first lady’s appearance in a key state an obvious push for her husbands reelection? If so, is it a bad idea for her to get involved?
